Devil’s Claw is an herbaceous plant of the Pedaliaceae family. The shape of its fruits’ woody capsule gives rise to its common name “devil’s claw”.

The active parts of this perennial plant are the secondary roots, which contain a high proportion of iridoids. Among these, the most noteworthy is the harpagoside, which along with small amounts of coumaroyl-harpagide, procumbide and coumaroyl ester. It also contains sugars, phytosterols, triterpenes, flavonoids, phenolic acids and traces of essential oil.

Properties

Traditionally, Devil’s Claw has been used as:

Anti-inflammatory: especially in acute and chronic inflammation.

Analgesic.

Aperitif substance: due to some bitter principles that it contains.

Choleretic: increases liver bile production.

Main indications

Chronic Osteoarthritis.

Tendinitis.

Back pain.

Rheumatic Diseases

Directions

1 or 2 capsules daily, with a glass of water.

Warnings

Do not use in case of peptic ulcer.

It can cause mild digestive disorders, especially when taken in high doses.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding: It is not recommended to take.
